We are a community for children and teens, their families, and young adults facing life after the death of someone important to them. The organization brings people together around grief, creating safe - both in-person and virtual - educational, recreational and therapeutic spaces designed to help everyone express the emotions that come with such a loss. The Director of Operations and Strategy is responsible for human resources, information technology including AI, financial reporting and budget management, and office management. This position works closely with the Executive Director to help further develop and execute Kate’s Club strategy.

The successful person in this role will be able to juggle several projects at once, from more tactical day-to-day tasks to long-term strategic planning. They will roll up their sleeves to order and organize supplies, and they will think holistically about the employee experience.

What you'll do

Percentages are approximate and will shift week to week, depending on the demands of the role.

Human Resources - 30% of the role

Kate’s Club team is made up of over 20 employees, with several employees located throughout the state. This person will work with our PEO to deliver a superior employee experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the employee lifecycle, from recruiting to onboarding and offboarding.
  • Lead annual open enrollment and benefits administration through JustWorks.
  • Support organizational and leadership development including the performance review process and compensation decisions.

Administrative and Office Management - 20% of the role

Within a small team, it falls to this role to keep everyone supplied with paper, pens, coffee, and sometimes food, and everything working correctly. This person will:

  • Manage supplies for programs and team members, including printer paper, pens, arts and crafts, and other supplies.
  • Responsible for the office environment, including serving as liaison between the building property team. Arrange for HVAC support for programs after hours.

Major Vendor Management - 20% of the role

Kate’s Club utilizes third party vendors, including a PEO and IT outsource vendor, and office supplier. The Director will work with the Executive Director to set budget and track delivery of these services. They will track spend versus budget for all categories associated with operations.

Strategic Support - 20% of time

This role will be working with the Executive Director on several key strategic initiatives, including, but not limited to, a move into new facilities; Kate’s Club’s role in the Georgia and national landscape; and the role of AI and opportunities for automation for the team.

Other responsibilities as assigned

Duties for a position like this cannot always be neatly categorized. Examples of other responsibilities include attending Kate’s Club’s programs periodically to be familiar with our work; representing Kate’s Club to potential donors; and participating in program meetings as part of 2025-2028 Strategic Plan annual review process. What you'll bring

  • An understanding of bereavement and a passion for the Kate’s Club mission to create a world in which it’s okay to grieve.
  • Three to five years of nonprofit management experience or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Human Resources experience, preferably as a generalist, with experience in all aspects of the employee life cycle, including recruiting, benefits and compensation, and culture.
  • Strategic planning experience.
  • Financial acumen, specifically in building and maintaining budgets.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to balance long-term relationship building with detailed, deadline-driven execution.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise good judgment, and remain resourceful in a hybrid and geographically distributed work environment.
  • A high degree of accountability, responsibility, discretion, and professional integrity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and AI tools;
  • Salesforce experience is preferred.
  • The ability and willingness to be in the office 3-4 days a week.
